Melissa "Roo" Kojancie began her career at the Erie Zoo as an intern. "I can drive the train, feed the lions, clean the llama yard, teach a class or build a scarecrow," she said. "I've done it all."

Melissa "Roo" Kojancie, a 2000 graduate of the biology program at Penn State Behrend, is the new president and CEO of the Erie Zoo. "Protecting endangered species is my 'why'," she said.

The Penn State Institute for Computational and Data Sciences has awarded eight teams of Penn State researchers with Mid-Scale Seed Grants for projects that will contribute to one or more of the institute's five research hubs or affiliated centers. The program awarded 23 Penn State faculty members representing six colleges and three campuses — University Park, Behrend and Hershey.
