Alternative spring break trippers pose by the water after just landing in Puerto Rico on March 3, 2019. They spent the following week doing trail maintenance in El Yunque National Park, painting houses that suffered water damage from the 2017 hurricanes, landscaping for elderly homeowners, and caring for newly planted trees that will fortify the coastal regions. Penn State University Libraries’ Short Edition short story dispensers are now at five of its Commonwealth Campus library locations, including, clockwise from left, John D. Vairo Library at Penn State Brandywine, Penn State Harrisburg Library, Berks Thun Library and John M. Lilley Library at Penn State Behrend. With its placement this semester of five additional short story dispensers, the University Libraries now has 10 short story dispensers University-wide, including one with community partner Schlow Centre Region Library, making it both the first and largest university partner with Short Edition worldwide.

The regional Science Olympiad features hands-on research challenges that test students' knowledge of physics, chemistry, optics and other scientific fields. More than 400 students participated in this year's event, which was hosted by Penn State Behrend.
The regional Science Olympiad includes competitions for both middle- and high-school students. North East High School won the upper bracket, advancing to the state tournament at Juniata College. Laurel Junior High School won the lower division.
More than 400 students from 34 area schools participated in the 2019 regional Science Olympiad at Penn State Behrend. The competition tested their knowledge of chemistry, forensics, meterology, optics and robotics.
