A spotted lanternfly mass on a grapevine in Boyertown, Pennsylvania, last year. Mass feeding can cause shoots and canes to wither and die, and honeydew can lead to sooty mold growth that contaminates grape clusters.
While driving, Behrend SAE Club uses a “burn and coast” method. This means that at the start of the competition, the car accelerates for a bit before the engine is turned off, so it can coast the remainder of the course. It’s an intentional attempt at fuel conservation.
Penn State Behrend's Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Club took first place in the International Supermileage Challenge, held June 7-8 at the Eaton Corporation’s Marshall Proving Grounds test track in Michigan. The competition challenges teams to create vehicles that squeeze the most mileage out of a single tank of high-octane gasoline. The Behrend vehicle traveled 3,013 miles on one gallon of gas, which was a new United States record.

Of all her accomplishments at Penn State Behrend, Mickie MacNicol is most proud of the senior photography fundraisers that she held at the end of her junior and senior years. In exchange for a senior photo shoot, MacNicol asked participating students to donate only what they could afford, and she then passed on the donations to local charities.
