President of Physician Network and Vice President of Administrative Services at UPMC Hamot in Erie.
About her work: I have wanted to work in the healthcare industry since I was a young child. I started my career as a physical therapist and still complete my education requirements in order to keep my physical therapy license, although my work is in administration now. I find the wealth of knowledge and research in healthcare fascinating, and I love to learn. My job allows me to stay abreast of the advancements in healthcare while also focusing on problem solving to bring improvements to the system. The continuous educational opportunities available keep me engaged and inspired.
Family: Two teenage children, Jaxsen in high school and Elise heading to college in fall of 2021.
Why she joined the WEC board: I’ve been very impressed with Penn State Behrend’s development. The growth of the campus shows a commitment to our region. We need business leaders to invest in our future, and dedication to this endeavor is apparent in the programmatic progress being made there.
Less talk, more action: Too many people think talking about something is problem solving. It’s a first step, but not a final one. You need to find a potential solution, implement it, and analyze your results. If it doesn’t work, start again.
Biggest challenges at work: Healthcare does not operate under a normal economic engine due to governmental and payer influences and the regulatory environment surrounding it. These constraints result in outcomes that are not optimized. Resources are not provided according to merit.
Most important traits for a professional woman to possess: Humility, confidence, and great listening skills. It’s also important to have the ability to problem solve.
What she wishes every woman knew: There are only so many hours in a day and you can’t give everything 100 percent. Focus on your priorities and accept the fact that there are times you must make difficult choices. And, you should not feel guilty about doing so.
What she’s learned the hard way: Everything ends. Focus on the here and now.
Food she couldn’t live without: Pizza.
Nature lover: I love to be in nature, whether that is hiking, kayaking, walking at the beach, or riding my bike. From the mountains to the beach, I love to travel and experience new places and things.
