Biography
PhD from SIUC, working in Applied Electromagnetics Research. Senior IEEE and Optica member, received Gold-Medal, Masters & Doctoral Fellowship, and Young Faculty Awards. Before joining Penn State Behrend, I was at Universities - SIUC, IIT-DWD, OleMiss, IIIT-H.
Research Interests
My research journey is driven by a passion for innovation and problem-solving across diverse disciplines, spanning Applications of Embedded Systems and Edge Devices, Radio Frequency (RF) and Photonics sensing including Biosensing. With a keen focus on addressing real-world challenges, I have consistently worked towards pushing the boundaries of knowledge and technology. This research statement outlines my ongoing projects, contributions, and future directions that demonstrate my commitment to academic excellence and practical impact.
CMOS Implementation of Advanced Device Behavior: The intersection of photonics and CMOS has intrigued me to delve into the realm of advanced device behavior, specifically proteresis. My research seeks to implement proteretic effects, a phenomenon that leads to advanced responses in electronic devices, within photonics and CMOS domains. Through theoretical exploration, novel switching designs, and integration with emerging technologies, I aspire to unlock new dimensions in security and modulation applications, pushing the boundaries of what is achievable in electronic devices.
Embedded System for Gait Analysis: My commitment to interdisciplinary research is epitomized in my study involving gait analysis. By harnessing the unique properties of Velostat and plastic optical fiber, we have developed an approach to gait analysis through the development of the VelGmat system. This low-cost, customizable sensing mat offers a novel method for accurately calculating the stance phase during the gait cycle. The comparative study conducted against commercially available alternatives underscores the surprising accuracy achieved by VelGmat, signifying its potential to revolutionize gait analysis techniques.
RF and Photonics Sensing for Biosensing Applications: A significant thrust of my research is dedicated to RF and photonics sensing with applications in biosensing. I've been working on the utilization of RF-based sensors to address challenges in specificity and reusability. My work spans the characterization of nanoparticles, the detection of biomolecules, and the advancement of real-time, portable, and efficient biomolecule detection platforms. By exploring the unique capabilities of radio waves, I aim to create a bridge between technology and healthcare, revolutionizing diagnostic tools and methodologies.
Autonomous Drone Navigation for Façade Detection: This research is at the intersection of autonomous systems, deep learning, and architectural preservation. we have worked on novel approaches to autonomous drone navigation by integrating heuristic and optimal strategies, enabling drones to navigate and capture images in GPS-restricted environments. Thereafter, this work continues towards the generation of comprehensive 3D models for advanced façade detection of buildings and monuments. This technology holds immense potential for heritage preservation, architectural documentation, and urban planning, as it addresses indoor navigation complexities and environmental challenges. By fusing practical rules with optimization techniques, I aim to redefine how drones contribute to the preservation and understanding of cultural and historical structures.
Photonics Integrated Circuits: In the field of Photonics, my research spans a broad spectrum of innovative applications. Recently, I have explored Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs) as transformative elements for Quantum Communication, where PICs play a pivotal role in enabling secure metropolitan quantum-key-distribution-based systems. Leveraging PICs, we tried working on an autonomous quantum communication system for gigahertz-rate quantum random number generation and quantum key distribution. My work also extends to other areas, encompassing the design of all-optical components like Delta Sigma Modulator (DSM), Schmitt trigger and all optical Digital Gates. Additionally, I've delved into optical gyroscope designs within photonic integrated circuits, further highlighting my multidisciplinary approach. This diverse portfolio reflects my commitment to advancing cutting-edge research at the intersection of quantum and photonic technologies.
In conclusion, my research trajectory embodies a commitment to pushing the boundaries of knowledge and innovation. By actively engaging in multidisciplinary pursuits across Embedded Systems, VLSI, RF and photonics Biosensing, I seek to contribute to the advancement of technology, foster practical solutions to real-world challenges, and inspire the next generation of researchers. I am excited to join an academic community that shares these values and to collaborate on projects that drive positive change on a global scale.
