Black School of Business Takes the Lead in Financial Literacy
Behrend students provide financial literacy training to local teachers to help assist the two-thirds of the U.S. population that struggles to calculate basic financial transactions, including interest payments. Alumnus Jason Pettner ’18 (C.S. McKee) was recently featured in a Penn State newswire story for his leadership efforts. Junior John McDermitt coordinates volunteer leaders from all regional universities through his involvement on the financial literacy committee through the CFA Society Pittsburgh. Junior Ben Lowery and McDermitt co-lead Behrend’s training efforts this year, which already has included a presentation at Harbor Creek High School. Learn more about this exciting venture.

Professional Designation Fund
One of the Black School’s high-impact initiatives is to support our students’ efforts in pursuing and attaining widely-valued and recognized professional certifications and designations. Funds are designated each year, but with your gift, even more students will have the financial help they need to get these desired accreditation at the start of their career. Last year, due to the generosity of donors, we funded over 35 requests for funding. If you are interested in donating, please email Dr. Greg Filbeck at [email protected].
Black School of Business Annual Spring Trip
The school takes students on a four-day trip to network with businesses and alumni in major U.S. cities each year. This year, we will travel to New York City from March 27-30, 2019! The cities we visit are ideal locations for aspiring business leaders. Students comment on the significance of these trips in their personal and professional growth. One student even found her current job at PIMCO in NYC by attending this trip in 2017! Watch video highlights of our 2017 trip.
