The Center for Financial Literacy, based in the Black School of Business at Penn State Behrend, has a singular mission: to improve the financial literacy skills and decision-making around money matters of high school students, secondary school educators, and adults.
The Center for Financial Literacy expands on the school’s education and training efforts undertaken in recent years in partnership with the CFA Society of Pittsburgh.
More About the Center for Financial Literacy
The Center for Financial Literacy delivers on its financial literacy mission through four core activities:
- Curriculum and in-class instruction to high school students. Trained volunteers and asynchronous videos developed by our Center educate high school students in basic numeracy, credit and debt, interest, risk diversification, and inflation.
- Training seminars for secondary school teachers. Programs presented as part of Act 48 training events and virtual yearly training opportunities give secondary school teachers the background and resources to capably present financial literacy topics to their students.
- Analytical assessment of financial literacy programs. Pre- and post-testing of participants in programming offered by the CFA Society Pittsburgh and other strategic partners offers insights into effectiveness, impact, and opportunities for program enhancement.
- Financial and retirement planning workshops for families. Workshops presented by the Center are intended to provide families in northwestern Pennsylvania with the knowledge and confidence to begin or improve planning for retirement.
