National Foreign Language Week 2022

In 2022, Penn State Behrend marked National Foreign Language Week with a week of events celebrating the languages that we offer on campus.

Monday, February 28

Noon–1:00 p.m.: World Catering Day
McGarvey Commons, Reed Union Building
Sample food from different countries and see explanations of the food and the country it comes from.

5:00–6:00 p.m.: Italian Culture Panel
Panel discussion on Italian language and culture.

7:00–8:00 p.m.: GASE Faculty and Student (and Staff) Chat
This informal discussion will focus on the use of LGBTQ+ pronouns in global languages.

7:00–8:00 p.m.: German Club Kahoot game
148 Kochel or via Zoom
Join the German club for a Kahoot game about German culture.

Tuesday, March 1

1:35–2:50 p.m.: German Speaker Panel (in English)
Panel discussion of contemporary German culture.

4:30–5:30 p.m.: Study Abroad Panel
Hear experiences of those who studied abroad from both faculty and student perspectives.

Wednesday, March 2

11:00 a.m.–noon: Global Eats French Cuisine
Bruno's Fishbowl, Reed Union Building
Join the Global Ambassadors for a taste of French cuisine and to join in some cultural learning activities. You'll also have a chance to win some macarons!

12:20–1:10 p.m.: French Speaker Panel (in English)
Panel of Francophone speakers, including faculty, students, and those in the field who utilize French in their careers and lives daily.

7:00–8:00 p.m.: Multilingual Behrend
Behrend faculty and students share their stories of being able to speak other languages.

Thursday, March 3

10:00–11:30 a.m.: Coming to America: Stories and Challenges of Living in a New Country
Join us for an informative and inspiring webinar to hear real stories from people who came to the U.S. under different circumstances. You will hear about their challenges and successes and get a chance to ask them questions. The event is presented by the Global Ambassadors.

Noon–1:30 p.m.: Spanish Speaker Panel (in English)
Panel of Spanish-speaking individuals who utilize Spanish in their careers and lives daily.

12:10–1:10 p.m.: German Panel (in German)
Panel discussion and conversation in German.
