Clubs and Organizations
Behrend Communication Network (BCN)
The Behrend Communication Network (a/k/a Comm Club) is an umbrella organization open to all students interested in any facet of communication. BCN sponsors social, educational, outreach, and philanthropic events and programs.
Behrend Political Society
The Behrend Political Society provides a forum to convene and discuss local, national, and international politics, as well as campus-related politics. The group also investigates possible graduate/law schools internships and jobs that may interest members.
BVZ Radio – Behrend's Voice
BVZ Radio "The Voice" campus internet radio station offers a wide variety of music formats, as well as news and educational programming. The programming is produced by students enrolled in the COMM 003 class (Radio Practicum). BVZ provides opportunities for students to participate in noncommercial radio production and create programming that fosters ideas and creative expression. BVZ is designed to be the Behrend community's voice by providing a diverse blend of programming that fosters ideas and creative expression and also draws from students' interests.
College Democrats
The Behrend College Democrats is an organization dedicated to promoting the ideals and values of the Democratic Party, as well as political awareness; encouraging an active political student body; and actively campaigning for Democratic Candidates across Erie County.
College Republicans
The Behrend College Republicans not only supports the Republican party, but the wide range of views and perspectives that fall under it—from Conservatism and its various schools, to Constitutionalism, Libertarianism, Classical-Liberalism, and Federalism, as well as other right-wing schools of thought.
German Club
The German Club promotes German culture, language, heritage, and history within the Penn State Behrend community, family, and friends.
Lake Effect: An International Literary Journal (Literary Magazine)
Creative Writing and English majors serve on the editorial staff of a prestigious international literary journal, Lake Effect, which provides them an advantage in both the job and the graduate program markets. The student staff of Lake Effect selects and edits work submitted by writers and translators from around the world. Work originally published in Lake Effect has been acknowledged and reprinted in The Best American Short Stories, The Best American Essays, and the Pushcart Prize anthology.
In addition, students who earn the positions of genre editors get to attend the annual conference of AWP, the professional organization for creative writing in this country. Along with staffing the Lake Effect table at the largest annual book fair in North America, they have the opportunity to network with editors of other journals and presses, as well as attend panel sessions and readings by some of the most influential writers in this country—a very rare opportunity for undergraduate students.
Lambda Pi Eta Communication Honor Society
Behrend's communication program's Omicron Chapter is a charter member of Lambda Pi Eta, the National Communication Association's Honor Society for undergraduate communication students. LPE is open to all students with the required GPA and number of credits in communication. Lambda Pi Eta recognizes, fosters, and rewards outstanding scholastic achievement while stimulating interest in the communication discipline.
Model United Nations
Penn State Behrend Model United Nations is a club for everyone. Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN, is an educational simulation and academic competition in which students learn about diplomacy, international relations, and international organization such as the United Nations, North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and more!
Pi Sigma Alpha Political Science Honor Society
The Political Science program at Penn State Behrend established a chapter of the Pi Sigma Alpha Political Science Honor Society in 2011. Pi Sigma Alpha is the only honor society for college students of political science and government in the United States.
PSB-TV
PSB-TV is the Behrend communication program's TV/video production facility.
Psi Chi Psychology Honor Society
Psi Chi, The National Psychology Honor Society, is a national organization dedicated to advancing the science of Psychology. Benefits of membership in Psi Chi include official recognition of the members' accomplishments, grants for research, national and regional conventions, and research competitions.
Psychology Club
Psychology Club provides a fun way for those interested in psychology to get to know each other and learn more about the field.
Roundtable Society
Roundtable Society is a student-led organization dedicated to the arts, including film, theater, and creative writing. The Roundtable Society sponsors readings, discussions, theater excursions, and annual events such as the Cold Turkey Reading, an open mic with post-Thanksgiving-Day refreshments, and The Evening of Dubious Taste, another open mic that revels in bad literature, music, film, fashion, and food. In addition, every Spring, the group publishes a collection of student works titled Three Bad Names.
The Behrend Beacon (Student Newspaper)
The Beacon is the student-run newspaper at Penn State Behrend, circulating 2,000 free copies every Tuesday afternoon during the regular academic year to over 20 locations across campus and the Erie area. The Beacon is one of the largest student-led organizations on campus and has been honored with the "Best Student Organization" and "Most Creative Program" awards. The Beacon is a member of the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association and the Associated Collegiate Press. Creative Writing and English majors often write for and edit the newspaper and its accompanying website. Involvement in The Beacon helps students understand journalistic writing and provides an opportunity for interested students to learn how a newspaper functions by today's media standards.
Theatre at Penn State Behrend
The Studio Theatre at Behrend is the home of two fully staged theatre productions and various other productions each year.
Wintergreen Media
A student-run messaging and multimedia service offered by the Penn State Behrend Communication program, contributing to the success of area non-profit organizations through the production of effective communication deliverables created by Penn State Behrend Communication majors.
