Behrend basketball teams extend winning streaks

The Penn State Behrend men’s basketball team has won its last 11 games — the team’s longest winning streak since the 2015-16 season.

ERIE, Pa. — The Penn State Behrend men’s basketball team has won its last 11 games – the team’s longest winning streak since the 2015-16 season. The women’s team has won its last six.

Behrend’s track, volleyball, wrestling and bowling teams also were in action last week. Here are the highlights:

Men’s basketball

Penn State Behrend 80, Mt. Aloysius 65

Penn State Behrend 81, Alfred State 76

PJ Gourley, a senior from Butler, scored 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds against Mt. Aloysius. He scored 19 points against Alfred State.

Women’s basketball

Penn State Behrend 84, Mt. Aloysius 55

Penn State Behrend 74, Alfred State 49

The Lions remain undefeated in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play. Alanna Dibble, a senior from Lakewood, New York, scored 14 points against Mt. Aloysius. Alexis Furyes, a freshman from Medina, Ohio, grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds against Alfred State.

Men’s track and field

Antonio Stello, a senior from Punxsutawney, won the 60-meter dash at the Highlander Invitational at Houghton College, finishing in 7:07 seconds. Samuel Hetrick, a sophomore from New Bethlehem, set a personal-best in the high jump, clearing a height of 2.05 meters.

Women’s track and field

Madison Kappeler, a sophomore from Cecil, placed third in the pole vault at the Highlander Invitational at Houghton College, clearing a height of 2.90 meters. She also recorded a career-best time in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 29.66.

Men’s volleyball

Marymount 3, Penn State Behrend 0

Arcadia 3, Penn State Behrend 1

JP Goodsel, a graduate student from Corry, recorded seven kills, four digs and two blocks against Marymount. He added seven kills and 10 digs against Arcadia.

Women’s bowling

Penn State Behrend 823, Pitt-Bradford 805

Penn State Behrend 811, Pitt-Bradford 785

Natalie Denny, a senior from Harborcreek, knocked down 200 pins in the second match. She averaged 173.33 points per game.

Wrestling

The Lions dropped three matches at the John Reese Duals in Wilkes-Barre. Cole Ruffo, a senior from Mercer, lost by decision at 149 pounds, finishing 8-5.
