Penn State Behrend high jumper to compete in DIII national indoor championships

Samuel Hetrick, a junior from New Bethlehem, won the high jump at the All-Atlantic Region Indoor Track and Field Conference championships. He cleared a height of 2.15 meters.

ERIE, Pa. — Penn State Behrend's Samuel Hetrick, a junior from New Bethlehem, won the high jump at the All-Atlantic Region Indoor Track and Field Conference championships, clearing a height of 2.15 meters. He will compete in the NCAA DIII National Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Alabama, on March 9-11.

Penn State Behrend’s baseball, softball, volleyball, tennis, water polo and bowling teams also were in action last week. Here are the scores and highlights:

Baseball

Penn State Behrend 4, Wilkes 1

The Lions scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning against Wilkes. Mac Ciocco, a sophomore from Venetia, hit a two-RBI single. Jeff Zick, a senior from Moon Township, pitched six innings and struck out eight batters.

Softball

Penn State Behrend 2, Otterbein 1

Trine 10, Penn State Behrend 0

Cami McNany, a senior from Emlenton, hit a home run in the first inning against Otterbein. Kayla Lindberg, a junior from Austinburg, Ohio, pitched the entire game, giving up just five hits and one earned run.

Women’s basketball

Alvernia 80, Penn State Behrend 67

Julia Balaski, a freshman from Mercer, scored a season-high 14 points against Alvernia. Morgan Altavilla, a freshman from Pittsburgh, scored 11 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and had five assists.

Men’s track and field

Samuel Hetrick, a junior from New Bethlehem, won the high jump at the All-Atlantic Region Indoor Track and Field Conference championships, clearing a height of 2.15 meters — a school record.

Women’s track and field

Olivia Nola, a sophomore from Erie, won the 3,000-meter race at the All-Atlantic Region Indoor Track and Field Conference championships. She finished in 10:04.06, nearly 16 seconds faster than her previous program-record time.

Owen Wienczkowski, a junior from Waterford, had 12 kills against Thiel. Setter Alex Jackson, a junior from Cochranton, had 31 assists and three block assists.

Men’s tennis

Houghton 7, Penn State Behrend 2

Ritvik Nadikude, a freshman from Hyderabad, India, won at No. 1 singles against Houghton. He finished with scores of 6-2, 6-4. Mason Harbaugh, a senior from Greensburg, won at No. 4 singles with scores of 0-6, 6-3 and 7-5.

Bella Pilyih, a junior from Pittsburgh, bowled a team-high 206 in the bye round on the first day of the Mt. Aloysius Invitational. Emily Warrene, a freshman from Tarentum, bowled a 204 against Wright State.

Women’s water polo

La Verne 17, Penn State Behrend 8

Shannon Young, a senior from Roseville, California, scored four goals against Whittier and two more against La Verne. She now has 100 goals in her collegiate career. Nic Darrell, a sophomore from Perkasie, added eight steals, three assists and a goal.
