ERIE, Pa. -- The Penn State Behrend men’s tennis team won the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship with a 5-0 sweep of Penn State Altoona on April 23. The Behrend team did not give up a single match point during the two-day tournament.
Behrend’s baseball, softball, track and field, volleyball and water polo teams also were in action last week. Here are the scores and highlights:

Chase Palmer, a sophomore from Brookville, hit a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth in the opener against Pitt-Bradford.

Meghan Petitte, a freshman from Sugarcreek, Ohio, hit a grand slam in the sixth inning with two outs showing in the nightcap against Pitt-Greensburg. Kayla Lindberg, a junior from Austinburg, Ohio, pitched a complete-game shutout in the opener against Pitt-Bradford. She allowed just three hits.
Men’s track and field
- Third (of 16 teams) at the Sparky Adams Invitational
Aidan Domencic, a senior from Cranberry Township, won the steeplechase, finishing in 9:53.92. Alex LaBarge, a freshman from Victor, New York, won the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.95 meters.
Women’s track and field
- Eleventh (of 16 teams) at the Sparky Adams Invitational
Olivia Nola, a sophomore from Erie, won the 5,000-meter race, finishing in 17:54.72.
Men’s volleyball
- New Jersey City 3, Penn State Behrend 2 (ECAC championship match)
- Penn State Behrend 3, St. Elizabeth 0
Owen Wienczkowski, a junior from Waterford, had 12 kills and five blocks against New Jersey City. Alex Jackson, a junior from Cochranton, had 28 assists, three kills, two digs and an ace against St. Elizabeth.
Men’s tennis
- Penn State Behrend 5, Penn State Altoona 0 (AMCC championship)
- Penn State Behrend 5, Pitt-Greensburg 0
Mitchell May, a senior from Erie, and Mason Harbaugh, a senior from Greensburg, were named to the AMCC All-Tournament Team.
Women’s water polo
- Grove City 18, Penn State Behrend 14
- Penn State Behrend 17, Utica 7
- Carthage 9, Penn State Behrend 8
Marley Persch, a sophomore from Hudsonville, Michigan, scored four goals against Grove City at the CWPA Division III championships. Emily McNaughton, a senior from Seven Fields, added three more.
