Behrend baseball team wins Eastern College Athletic Conference title

The Penn State Behrend baseball team won the 2023 Eastern College Athletic Conference Division-III championship with a 6-4 defeat of Alvernia on May 19.

The Penn State Behrend baseball team won the 2023 Eastern College Athletic Conference Division-III championship with a 6-4 defeat of Alvernia on May 19. Silvio Ionadi, a freshman from Pittsburgh, hit a triple with two outs showing in the fourth inning.

Behrend’s track and field teams also were in action last week. Here are the scores and highlights:

Baseball

  • Penn State Behrend 6, Alvernia 4
  • Penn State Behrend 6, Alvernia 1
  • Alvernia 9, Penn State Behrend 3

Jeff Zick, a senior from Moon Township, pitched seven innings in the first of three games against Alvernia. He struck out six batters.

Men’s track and field

Dan Dabrowski, a junior from Harborcreek, placed third in the discus at the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference Championships, recording a throw of 50.08 meters. He and Samuel Hetrick, a junior from New Bethlehem who competes in the high jump, will represent Behrend at the NCAA DIII outdoor championships at St. John Fisher University.

Women’s track and field

Olivia Nola, a sophomore from Erie, finished seventh in the 1,500-meter race at the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference Championships. She finished in 4:39.31. Behrend’s 4x800 relay team — Nola, Ivy Laffan, Emily Ferrans and Lindsey Hartle — placed 14th, finishing in 10:02.91.
