Behrend runners claim top six spots at home invitational

Penn State Behrend runners won the top six spots in the men's race at the Penn State Behrend Invitational.

ERIE, Pa. — Penn State Behrend runners won the top six spots in the men’s race at the Penn State Behrend Invitational. The women’s team placed three runners in the top 10.

The college’s soccer, volleyball, tennis, golf and water polo teams also were in action last week. Here are the scores and highlights:

Men’s soccer

  • Penn State Behrend 2, Chatham 1
  • Penn State Behrend 0, Grove City 0

Goalkeeper Sam York, a senior from Akron, Ohio, made four saves against Grove City, including a stop on a penalty kick in the 12th minute.

Women’s soccer

  • Penn State Behrend 2, Allegheny 1
  • Penn State Behrend 4, Houghton 0

Mia Zec, a senior from Cranberry Township, scored both goals against Allegheny. The second was the result of a penalty kick. Goalkeeper Riley Morningstar, a sophomore from North Huntingdon, made five saves.

Men’s cross country

  • First (of three teams) at the Penn State Behrend Invitational

Kody Klein, a junior from North East, won the 8K race, finishing in 26:52.5. Bennett Kerr, a junior from Murrysville, placed second, finishing in 27:28.3.

Women’s cross country

  • Second (of three teams) at the Penn State Behrend Invitational

Lindsey Hartle, a sophomore from Pittsburgh, won the 6K race, finishing in 24:05.0. Savanna Carr, a senior from Accident, Maryland, placed third, finishing in 26:22.1.

Women’s volleyball

  • Penn State Behrend 3, Alfred 2
  • Penn State Behrend 3, Houghton 0
  • Buffalo State 3, Penn State Behrend 2
  • Allegheny 3, Penn State Behrend 0

Hannah Phillips, a senior from Pittsburgh, had 19 kills and 12 digs against Buffalo State. Meg Goodsel, a senior from Corry, had 36 assists against Alfred.

Women’s tennis

  • Penn State Behrend 9, Mt. Aloysius 0
  • Penn State Behrend 9, Penn State Altoona 0
  • Alfred 6, Penn State Behrend 2

Erica Jasinski, a senior from Fairview, and Lindsey Kerlin, a freshman from Clearfield, won at No. 1 doubles against Mt. Aloysius. Jayna Baer, a sophomore from Pittsburgh, and Madalynn Perry, a freshman from Warren, won at No. 3 doubles. Neither pair gave up a single point.

Men’s golf

  • Eighth (of 15 teams) at the Mountain Valley Collegiate Classic
  • Eleventh (of 17 teams) at the Grove City Fall Invitational
  • Fifth (of eight teams) at the St. John Fisher Invitational

Daniel McMaster, a junior from Murrysville, placed fifth in a field of 100 golfers at the Grove City Fall Invitational. He shot a career-low 76.

Men’s water polo

  • Penn State Behrend defeated Wheaton (forfeit)
  • Iona 15, Penn State Behrend 8
  • Penn State Behrend 11, Connecticut College 9

Chase Cordon, a senior from Canyon Lake, California, scored four goals against Connecticut College.
