Behrend tennis team places second at AMCC championship

The Penn State Behrend women’s tennis team placed second at the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship, at the Oxford Athletic Club in Wexford. Pitt-Greensburg won the title, 5-0.

ERIE, Pa. — The Penn State Behrend women’s tennis team placed second at the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship, held at the Oxford Athletic Club in Wexford. Pitt-Greensburg won the title, 5-0. The Lions finished their season with an 8-4 record.

Behrend’s soccer, volleyball, cross-country, swimming and diving, golf and bowling teams also were in action last week. Here are the scores and highlights:

Men’s soccer

Penn State Altoona 1, Penn State Behrend 0

Penn State Behrend 2, Alfred State 0

Blake Cooper, a junior from Murrysville, scored the first goal against Alfred State, hitting the net in the 18th minute. Goalkeeper Sam York, a senior from Akron, Ohio, made three saves.

Women’s soccer

Penn State Behrend 9, Penn State Altoona 0

Penn State Behrend 8, Alfred State 1

Trinity Prestash, a junior from Philipsburg, scored twice against Alfred State. Rachel Sickeri, a freshman from DuBois, and Arina Dillinger, a senior from Pittsburgh, each scored two goals against Penn State Altoona.

Women’s volleyball

Penn State Altoona 3, Penn State Behrend 0

Penn State Behrend 3, Alfred State 1

Meg Goodsel, a senior from Corry, had 10 kills, 30 assists, nine digs and three aces against Alfred State. Maura Benim, a sophomore from Erie, matched her career high for digs, with 15.

Men’s cross-country

21st (of 25 teams) at the Mike Woods Invitational at Geneseo

Lucas Boyd, a freshman from North East, paced the Lions, finishing the 8K race in 25:58.4. He placed 129th in a field of 371 runners.

Women’s cross-country

19th (of 23 teams) at the Mike Woods Invitational at Geneseo

Lindsey Hartle, a sophomore from Pittsburgh, finished the 6K race in 23:25.4. She placed 105th in a field of 300 runners.

Erica Jasinski, a senior from Fairview, and Jayna Baer, a sophomore from Pittsburgh, were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Men’s swimming and diving

Grove City 1,572, Penn State Behrend 943

Jacob Early, a sophomore from Erie, won the one-meter diving event (184.81) and the three-meter diving event (172.81). Tim Compton, a junior from Pittsburgh, won the 500 free (5:04.68).

Women’s swimming and diving

Grove City 1,242.5, Penn State Behrend 1,157.5

Jadyn Danylko, a sophomore from Erie, won the 200 fly (2:29.55) and the 100 fly (1:02.34). Melody Li, a sophomore from South Brunswick, New Jersey, won the 200 breaststroke (2:50.74). Marin O’Lone, a freshman from Edinboro, won the 100 backstroke (1:05.43). Camryn Watters, a freshman from Greensburg, won the 200 backstroke (2:18.06).

Men’s golf

Third (of nine teams) at the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships

Jake Caldwell, a senior from Belle Vernon, placed fifth in a field of 44 golfers, finishing with a two-day score of 158. Jared Franc, a junior from Erie, tied for eighth place, finishing with a 161.

Sidney Batsa, a junior from Latrobe, finished the first day at the Grapevine Classic with an average of 169. She scored a 177 in the win over Ursuline. Bella Pilyih, a senior from Pittsburgh, scored a 203 against Daemen.
