Behrend swimming and diving teams win AMCC championships

Penn State Behrend’s swimming and diving teams won the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championships in Rochester, New York. The women’s team also won the Allegheny-Empire Championship.

ERIE, Pa. — Penn State Behrend’s swimming and diving teams won the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championships in Rochester, New York, on Feb. 17. The women’s team also won the Allegheny-Empire Championship.

Behrend’s basketball, track and field, volleyball, tennis and water polo teams also were in action last week. Here are the scores and highlights:

Men’s basketball

  • Penn State Behrend 75, Wells 68
  • Penn State Behrend 78, Alfred State 76

Matt Niland, a senior from Erie, scored a career-high 22 points against Alfred State. Mason Blankenberg, a sophomore from Ontario, New York, and Matthew McDonough, a sophomore from Pittsburgh, each scored 18 points.

Women’s basketball

  • Penn State Behrend 81, Alfred State 57

Madilyn Boyer, a sophomore from Saxonburg, scored 14 points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds against Alfred State. She also had three blocks.

Men’s swimming and diving

  • First (of eight teams) at the AMCC Championships

Tim Compton, a junior from Pittsburgh, set team, meet and AMCC Open records in the 200 butterfly, finishing in 1:51.73. Will Perham, a sophomore from Upper St. Clair, set team, meet and AMCC Open records in the 200 breaststroke, finishing in 2:03.98. Anthony Tumino, a sophomore from Hershey, won the 200 backstroke, finishing in 1:53.66.

Women’s swimming and diving

  • First (of eight teams) at the AMCC Championships

Camryn Watters, a freshman from Greensburg, set team, meet and AMCC Open records in the 200 backstroke, which she won in 2:06.33. Isabel Sheridan, a sophomore from Allentown, won the 1650 free, finishing in 18:26.78. Diver Lauren Stephens, a freshman from Fairview, won the 1-meter and 3-meter events.

Men’s track and field

Samuel Hetrick, a senior from New Bethlehem, won the high jump at the Ashland “Last Chance Meet,” clearing a height of 1.85 meters. Jake Egizio, a freshman from Canonsburg, won the 400 dash, finishing in 50.08 seconds.

Women’s track and field

Madison Kappeler, a senior from Cecil, placed fourth in the long jump (5.03 meters) and the pole vault (3.30 meters) at the Ashland “Last Chance Meet.” Ivy Laffan, a junior from Waterford, placed fifth in the 400 dash. She finished in 1:01.31.

Men’s volleyball

  • Trine 3, Penn State Behrend 0
  • Penn State Behrend 3, Buffalo State 0

Kyle Hoffman, a sophomore from Carlton, had 10 kills, five digs and four block assists against Buffalo State. Alex Jackson, a senior from Cochranton, had 29 assists.

Men’s tennis

  • Otterbein 9, Penn State Behrend 0

Women’s water polo

  • Chapman 18, Penn State Behrend 9
  • Gannon 15, Penn State Behrend 6
  • Chapman 18, Penn State Behrend 3
  • LIU 12, Penn State Behrend 1

Susie Carrillo, a sophomore from Fresno, California, scored four goals in the first match against Chapman. Monica Villasenor made 16 saves.
