The Penn State Behrend women’s basketball team claimed the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship with a 73-54 win over La Roche.

ERIE, Pa. — The Penn State Behrend women’s basketball team claimed the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship with a 73-54 win over La Roche. The Lions will face Catholic in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament.

The college's baseball, volleyball, track and field, tennis and bowling teams also were in action last week. Here are the scores and highlights:

Men’s basketball

La Roche 80, Penn State Behrend 69 (AMCC Championship)

Penn State Behrend 73, Alfred State 65

Tommy DiRienzo, a senior from Pittsburgh, scored a game-high 24 points against Alfred State. He also tied his career high for rebounds, with 14. Matthew McDonough, a sophomore from Pittsburgh, scored 18 points.

Women’s basketball

Penn State Behrend 73, La Roche 54 (AMCC Championship)

Penn State Behrend 76, Penn State Altoona 69

Morgan Altavilla, a sophomore from Pittsburgh, scored a game-high 29 points against La Roche. Rachel Majewski, a junior from Erie, scored 22 points against Penn State Altoona.

Men’s track and field

First (of seven teams) at the AMCC/United East Indoor Track and Field Championships

Kody Klein, a junior from North East, won the 800-meter race, finishing in 2:01.95. He also won the mile run, finishing in 4:27.97. Samuel Hetrick, a senior from New Bethlehem, won the high jump, clearing a height of 1.87 meters.

Women’s track and field

First (of seven teams) at the AMCC/United East Indoor Track and Field Championships

Madison Kappeler, a senior from Cecil, won the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.40 meters. She joined Victoria Dietrich, Peyton Grimm and Ivy Laffan for the 4x4 relay, which the Lions won in 4:16.93.

Penn State Behrend 3, SUNY Poly 0

Thiel 3, Penn State Behrend 1

Owen Wienczkowski, a senior from Waterford, had 13 kills, four blocks and three digs against Thiel. Setter Alex Jackson, a senior from Cochranton, had 38 assists and 12 kills.

Baseball

Penn State Behrend 12, Lancaster 4

Chase Palmer, a junior from Brookville, hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning. Daniel Boehme, a junior from Peters Township, hit a solo home run in the same inning.

Men’s tennis

Penn State Behrend 8, Washington & Jefferson 1

Jonathon Laier, a junior from Lansing, Michigan, won at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 7-5. Akash Sangha, a freshman from Milton, Ontario, won at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Together, they won at No. 1 doubles, 8-1.

Women’s bowling
