Behrend tennis team claims share of AMCC regular-season championship

The Penn State Behrend men’s tennis team split a double-header with Penn State Altoona on April 14. Both teams were named co-champions of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference regular season.

ERIE, Pa. — The Penn State Behrend men’s tennis team split a double-header with Penn State Altoona on April 14. Both teams were named co-champions of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference regular season. Behrend will face Mt. Aloysius in the AMCC semifinals on April 20.

The college’s baseball, softball, track and field and volleyball teams also were in action last week. Here are the scores and highlights:

Baseball

  • Penn State Behrend 15, Thiel 1
  • Penn State Behrend 6, La Roche 2
  • Penn State Behrend 22, Alfred 2
  • Penn State Behrend 7, Hilbert 4

The Lions scored in every inning against Alfred. The team scored six runs in the third and six more in the fourth. Adam Cooper, a freshman from State College, hit a three-run homerun against Thiel.

Meghan Petitte, a sophomore from Sugarcreek, Ohio, hit a homerun in each game against La Roche. Kayla Lindberg, a senior from Austinburg, Ohio, earned her 200th career strikeout in the nightcap against Hilbert.

Men’s track and field

Samuel Hetrick, a senior from New Bethlehem, won the high jump at the Westminster Invitational. He cleared a height of 1.95 meters. Dan Dabrowski, a senior from Harborcreek Township, won the discus event with a throw of 50.69 meters. Aidan Domencic, a senior from Cranberry Township, won the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing in 9:55.40.

Women’s track and field

Madison Kappeler, a senior from Cecil, placed fifth in the long jump at the Westminster Invitational. She jumped a distance of 5.09 meters. Behrend’s 4x1 relay team – Kappeler, Peyton Grimm, Rylee Long and Ivy Laffan – placed fourth, finishing in 52.04.

Akash Sangha, a freshman from Milton, Ontario, and Jonathon Laier, a junior from Lansing, Michigan, won at No. 1 doubles against Penn State Altoona, finishing 8-6. Owen Sinnott, a freshman from Erie, and Aidan Piazza, a junior from Fairview, won at No. 2 doubles, finishing 8-3.

Men’s volleyball

  • Penn State Behrend 3, Penn State Altoona 1

Daniel Easly, a sophomore from Erie, led the Lions against Altoona with 16 kills. Alex Jackson, a senior from Cochranton, had 34 assists.
