Behrend baseball, softball teams exit NCAA tournaments

The Penn State Behrend softball team exited the NCAA Division III Regional tournament with a 1-0 loss to Dominican.

ERIE, Pa. — Penn State Behrend’s baseball and softball teams exited the NCAA Division III Regionals with losses to Catholic and Dominican, respectively. The baseball team closed its season with a 29-13-1 record. The softball team finished its season 33-10.

Behrend’s track and field teams also were in action last week. Here are the highlights:

Baseball

Adrian 12, Penn State Behrend 1

Catholic 14, Penn State Behrend 2

Penn State Behrend 10, Baldwin Wallace 4

Daniel Boehme, a junior from Peters Township, hit a three-run home run against Baldwin Wallace, which was ranked No. 3 in the nation.

Softball

Dominican 1, Penn State Behrend 0

Case Western 7, Penn State Behrend 4

Maria Jones, a senior from Wilcox, hit a two-run double against Case Western. Abby Tingley, a sophomore from Union City, pitched 5.1 innings and struck out three batters.

Men’s track and field

Dan Dabrowski, a senior from Harborcreek Township, set a Behrend record in the discus throw at the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Outdoor Championships. He placed second with a 52.26-meter throw.

Women’s track and field

Julia Balaski, a sophomore from Mercer, placed third in the javelin at the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference Outdoor Championships. She earned a spot on the podium with a 36-meter throw.
