Behrend cross-country teams win AMCC Championships

Penn State Behrend’s cross-country teams won the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships Nov. 2 at the Westmoreland Fairgrounds.

ERIE, Pa. — Penn State Behrend’s cross-country teams won the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships at the Westmoreland Fairgrounds on Nov. 2. The men’s team claimed a fifth-consecutive title. The women’s team won a sixth-straight title.

Behrend’s soccer, volleyball, swimming and diving, water polo, wrestling and bowling teams also were in action last week. Here are the scores and highlights:

Men’s soccer

Penn State Behrend 6, Hilbert 0

The Lions scored three goals in a six-minute span against Hilbert. Jacob Gajewski, a senior from Akron, Ohio, and Reilly Nickles, a junior from Pittsburgh, scored their first collegiate goals.

Women’s volleyball

Penn State Behrend 3, Hilbert 1

Cadence Jones, a freshman from North East, had a season-high 23 kills against Hilbert. Brynne Smith, a freshman from Butler, had 47 assists and 12 digs.

Men’s cross-country

First (of four teams) at the AMCC Championships

Lucas Boyd, a sophomore from North East, placed first in a field of 40 runners, finishing the 8K race in 27:40.5. Bennett Kerr, a senior from Murrysville, placed fourth, finishing in 29:00.9.

Women’s cross-country

First (of six teams) at the AMCC Championships

Lindsey Hartle, a junior from Pittsburgh, placed second in a field of 40 runners. She finished the 6K race in 25:59.8. Baylee Dernar, a freshman from Wattsburg, placed fourth, finishing in 26:50.8.

Men’s swimming and diving

Penn State Behrend 174, Pitt-Bradford 68

Tim Compton, a senior from Pittsburgh, won the 200 butterfly (1:58.10) and the 100 butterfly (52.95). Anthony Tumino, a junior from Hershey, won the 200 backstroke (2:03.21) and the 100 backstroke (55.65). With Glenn Fowkes, a sophomore from Vandergrift, and Will Perham, a junior from Upper St. Clair, they won the 200 medley relay, finishing in 1:37.72.

Women’s swimming and diving

Penn State Behrend 180, Pitt-Bradford 40

Camryn Watters, a sophomore from Greensburg, set pool records in the 200 backstroke (2:11.92) and the 200 medley relay (1:54.57), which she swam with Marin O’Lone, a sophomore from Edinboro; Kallie Smith, a freshman from Oil City; and Jadyn Danylko, a junior from Erie.

Men’s water polo

Gannon 22, Penn State Behrend 8

Mercyhurst 14, Penn State Behrend 8

Jack Holl, a senior from Greenwich, Connecticut, scored four goals against Mercyhurst. Nick Thompson, a freshman from Hudsonville, Michigan, scored three goals against Gannon.

Wrestling

Abraham Keep, a sophomore from Girard, was one of five Behrend wrestlers who were undefeated at the season-opening Lycoming Invitational. Keep, who wrestles at 197 pounds, had two pins; he also won by technical fall and on points.

Lillie Holt, a junior from Pulaski, led the Lions in four of their five traditional matches on day one of the Niagara University Brunswick Fall Open. She finished with scores of 200, 175, 206 and 204.
