Behrend men’s basketball team gets wins over Carlow, Mount Aloysius

The Penn State Behrend men’s basketball team defeated Carlow and Mount Aloysius. The Lions travel to La Roche on Feb. 5.

The Penn State Behrend men’s basketball team defeated Carlow, 75-50, in an away game on Jan. 28. The Lions scored a season-high 14 three-pointers.

The team also defeated Mount Aloysius, 86-57. Tommy DiRienzo, a senior from Pittsburgh, scored a game-high 25 points against Mount Aloysius. He is now third in career points, with 1,700. Nate Edwards, a freshman from Girard, scored a career-high 16 points against Mount Aloysius.

Behrend’s track and field, swimming and diving, volleyball, wrestling and bowling teams also were in action last week. Here are the scores and highlights:

Women’s basketball

  • Penn State Behrend 74, Mount Aloysius 55
  • Penn State Behrend 92, Carlow 40

Rachel Majewski, a senior from Erie, scored 21 points against Mount Aloysius. The win earned coach Christine VanHook her 150th career victory.

Men’s track and field

Brandon Konieczki, a sophomore from Erie, placed second in the long jump at the Jim Wuske Invitational, clearing a distance of 6.61 meters. Derek Hillhouse, a senior from Erie, placed second in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.85 meters.

Women’s track and field

Lindsey Hartle, a junior from Pittsburgh, placed second in the 3,000-meter race at the Jim Wuske Invitational, finishing in 11:24.10.

Men’s swimming and diving

  • Penn State Behrend 182, Alfred State 102
  • Penn State Behrend 188, Wheeling 91

Will Perham, a junior from Upper St. Clair, set a pool record in the 100 breaststroke, finishing in 56.74. He won that event and the 200 IM, which he finished in 2:05.71. Glenn Fowkes, a sophomore from Vandergrift, won the 100 backstroke (54.27) and the 200 backstroke (2:02.33). Tim Compton, a senior from Pittsburgh, won the 1,000 freestyle (10:18.26) and the 200 butterfly (2:00.69). Anthony Tumino, a junior from Hershey, won the 200 freestyle (1:49.01) and the 50 freestyle (21.76).

Women’s swimming and diving

  • Alfred State 142, Penn State Behrend 139
  • Penn State Behrend 163, Wheeling 116

Camryn Watters, a sophomore from Greensburg, won the 200 backstroke, finishing in 2:11.51. Kallie Smith, a freshman from Oil City, won the 200 IM, finishing in 2:18.05.

Men’s volleyball

  • Hiram 3, Penn State Behrend 1

Daniel Easly, a junior from Erie, led the Lions with nine kills and four block assists. Kyle Hoffman, a junior from Carlton, added eight kills and 10 digs.

Wrestling

  • Penn State Behrend 53, Thiel 3

The Lions won nine of 10 bouts against Thiel. Nolan Fenton, a sophomore from Kersey, won by pin in just 27 seconds in the 197-pound class.

The Lions placed fourth out of six teams at the two-day Bobcat Baker Tournament. Lillie Holt, a junior from Pulaski, was named to the All-Tournament Team.
