ERIE, Pa. — The Penn State Behrend baseball team split two double-headers against Eastern Mennonite in the team’s first action of the 2025 season. Daniel Boehme, a senior from Peters Township, opened the third game with a two-run double in the top of the first.
Mac Ciocco, a senior from Venetia, hit a two-run home run – his first collegiate home run – in the game’s fourth inning.
Eastern Mennonite rallied back in the second of each day’s games:

- Eastern Mennonite 14, Penn State Behrend 6
- Penn State Behrend 10, Eastern Mennonite 8
- Eastern Mennonite 11, Penn State Behrend 8

Men’s basketball
- La Roche 63, Penn State Behrend 59
The Lions exited the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference tournament with a loss to La Roche. Matthew McDonough, a junior from Pittsburgh, scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed three rebounds. Tommy DiRienzo, a senior from Pittsburgh, scored 16 points and grabbed four rebounds.
Women’s basketball
- La Roche 67, Penn State Behrend 55
- Penn State Behrend 85, Penn State Altoona 52
Rachel Majewski, a senior from Erie, scored 25 points against Penn State Altoona. Madilyn Boyer, a junior from Saxonburg, scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
Men’s track and field
- Fourth (of 10 teams) at the State University of New York Athletic Conference indoor championships
Brandon Konieczki, a sophomore from Erie, placed second in the long jump, clearing a distance of 7.07 meters. Derek Hillhouse, a senior from Erie, placed third in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.90 meters. Alex Cotton, a junior from Saxonburg, placed third in the shot put with a 15.75-meter throw.
Women’s track and field
- Sixth (of 10 teams) at the State University of New York Athletic Conference indoor championships
Madison Kappeler, a senior from Cecil, placed third in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.35 meters. Lindsey Hartle, a junior from Pittsburgh, placed fifth in the 3,000-meter race. She finished in 11:06.12 – a personal best.
Men’s volleyball
- Thiel 3, Penn State Behrend 0
Kyle Hoffman, a junior from Carlton, had nine kills. Luke Mumpower, a junior from North Huntingdon, had 19 assists.
Men’s tennis
- Penn State Behrend 7, Mount Aloysius 0
- Baldwin Wallace 6, Penn State Behrend 0
Jonathon Laier, a senior from Lansing, Michigan, won at No. 1 singles against Mount Aloysius, finishing 6-2, 6-3. Owen Sinnott, a sophomore from Erie, won at No. 2 singles, finishing 6-3, 6-2.
Wrestling
- Thirteenth (of 19 teams) at the NCAA Division III Regional Qualifier
Cole Neil, a sophomore from St. Marys, placed fourth in the 141-pound weight class. He won by pin and by decision before falling in the third-place match.
