Behrend track-and-field athlete sets record in long jump

Penn State Behrend track-and-field athlete Brandon Konieczki won the long jump at the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference indoor championships, clearing a distance of 7.16 meters.

ERIE, Pa. — Penn State Behrend track-and-field athlete Brandon Konieczki set a program record in the long jump at the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference indoor championships, clearing a distance of 7.16 meters. Konieczki, a sophomore from Erie, won the event.

In the women’s events, Jaade Duncan, a freshman from Turners Falls, Massachusetts, finished the 200-meter race in 26.86 seconds — a personal best. She placed 26th.

Behrend’s baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball, tennis and water polo teams also were in action last week. Here are the scores and highlights:

Baseball

Penn State Behrend 8, Wabash 5

Thomas Nicely, a junior from Delmont, hit two doubles and drove in three RBIs against Wabash. Relief pitcher Jake Manendo, a sophomore from Erie, threw 2.2 innings and struck out two batters.

Softball

Penn State Behrend 11, Regis 4

North Central 5, Penn State Behrend 4

Jocelyn McNany, a senior from Cranberry Township, hit a home run and a double against North Central. She also hit a double against Regis. Julia Jones, a sophomore from Wilcox, pitched three innings against Regis and struck out seven batters.

Women’s basketball

Allegheny 71, Penn State Behrend 61

The Lions exited the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament with a loss to Allegheny in the quarterfinals. Madilyn Boyer, a junior from Saxonburg, tied a career-high with 24 points.

Men’s volleyball

Penn State Behrend 3, Wilson 0

Mt. Union 3, Penn State Behrend 0

Daniel Easly, a junior from Erie, had 14 kills and 11 digs against Wilson. Luke Mumpower, a junior from North Huntingdon, had 24 assists and seven digs.

Lindsey Kerlin, a sophomore from Clearfield, won a tiebreaker at No.  4 singles, finishing with scores of 6-2, 2-6, and 10-8.

Penn State Behrend 14, Grove City 9

Washington & Jefferson 16, Penn State Behrend 5

Darragh Martin, a junior from Green Lane, scored six goals against Connecticut College. She scored five goals against Grove City.
