Behrend student-athlete sets records with discus throw

Penn State Behrend track-and-field athlete Dan Dabrowski set school and meet records in the discus on the final day of the State University of New York Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships.

ERIE, Pa. — Penn State Behrend track-and-field athlete Dan Dabrowski set school and meet records in the discus on the final day of the State University of New York Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships. Dabrowski, a senior from Harborcreek, recorded a 53.32-meter throw, breaking a meet record that was set in 1979. He won the event.

Carter Tobin, a freshman from Irwin, won the 100-meter race, finishing in 10.92. He placed second in the 200-meter race, finishing in 21.79.

Ryan Festa, a senior from Horsham, won the pole vault event, clearing a height of 4.55 meters.

The Lions placed second out of 11 teams at the championship meet.

The women’s team placed fourth of out of 11 teams. Ivy Laffan, a senior from Waterford, placed third in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing in 1:09.50 — a personal best. Braylee Lukehart, a freshman from Reynoldsville, placed third in the javelin, recording a 32.24-meter throw.

Behrend’s baseball, softball and tennis teams also were in action last week. Here are the scores and highlights:

Baseball

  • Penn State Behrend 9, Mount Aloysius 4
  • Penn State Behrend 6, Mount Aloysius 1
  • Alfred State 4, Penn State Behrend 3
  • Alfred State 11, Penn State Behrend 4

Chase Palmer, a senior from Brookville, hit a two-run home run in the opener against Mount Aloysius. Dylan Barnes, a sophomore from Pittsburgh, hit a two-run triple in the opener against Alfred State.

Softball

  • Penn State Behrend 6, Alfred State 1
  • Alfred State 9, Penn State Behrend 8

Chloe Nale, a freshman from Aliquippa, batted four-for-five in the opener against Alfred State, earning a double and an RBI. In the nightcap, she hit a two-out, two-RBI triple.

Men’s tennis

  • Penn State Behrend 4, Marymount 2

The Lions won the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference and Atlantic East Crossover Championship. The team ends its season with a 13-8 record.
