Purpose

The Research Committee advises the Council and administration on means of maintaining viable research and scholarly activities, to review research policies, to recommend the establishment and modification or termination of organized research units, to review sabbatical leave applications, and to determine on an annual basis the recipients of the Penn State Behrend Council of Fellows Faculty Research Award and the Penn State Behrend Council of Fellows Excellence in Outreach Award. The Senior Associate Dean serves as an ex officio member of this Committee.

Charges

  1. Review sabbatical leave applications and recommend individuals for sabbaticals.
  2. Review nominations for and select recipients for COF Faculty Research Awards and Faculty Outreach Award.
  3. Investigate the need for a college-wide grant writer to assist in locating, writing, and submitting grant applications.
  4. Survey faculty regarding barriers for research productivity, external funding submissions, and implementation of externally funded projects. Work with the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Affairs to develop a set of recommendations to address these barriers.
