Lake Effect: An International Literary Journal

Lake Effect is Penn State Behrend’s international literary journal, published each spring by the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and supported by an endowment from the family of Helen Thomas Kennedy. The journal features fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry from both emerging and established writers. 

George Looney, distinguished professor of creative writing and English, and Aimee Pogson, associate teaching professor of creative writing and English, serve as the journal’s editors.

Current Issue

Lake Effect, Volume 29 features new fiction, poetry, and nonfiction from a diverse group of contemporary writers. Highlights include short stories by Marie-Helene Bertino and Tina May Hall, and Morris Collins; poetry by Elton Glaser, Eugene Gloria, Kareem Tayyar, Al Maginnes, and Beth Anstandig; and nonfiction by Jeffrey N. Johnson and Barbara Hurd.
