MCE and WISE programs for high school students to hold open house on April 5

Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, invites are area high school juniors to apply to its two free college-prep summer programs, Minority College Experience (MCE) and Women in Science and Engineering (WISE). An open house for prospective MCE or WISE students and their families will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5, in 117 Reed Union Building. Admission is free and no reservation is needed.

The Penn State Behrend track and field teams opened their outdoor seasons March 25 at the Cal U Early Bird Invitational. The men’s team won the shot put and the 110- and 400-meter hurdles; the women won the 800-meter relay. The campus' volleyball, tennis, water polo, baseball and softball teams also were in action last week. Here are the highlights.

$500K NSF grant will advance Behrend faculty member's plastics research

The National Science Foundation has awarded a five-year, $500,000 grant to Alicyn Rhoades, an assistant professor of engineering at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, to study how friction and cooling rates during the manufacturing process affect the strength, flexibility and biodegradation of plastic materials.
