Executive in Residence Program Expands Impact
In 2019–20, four business professionals will be serving as Executives in Residence in the Black School of Business: Ann Scott, community outreach manager at Erie Insurance Group; Brad Postema, senior vice president and chief investment officer at Erie Insurance; Dan Levstek, former officer and senior vice president of commercial and finance at CMI Energy; and Steve Bugajski, chief information officer at U. S. Steel Corporation. Scott will be working with the management program; Postema will be working with the finance program; Levstek will be working with interdisciplinary programs; and Bugajski will be working with the MIS program.
Automation and AI Explored at Annual ERIE Conference
The 2019 conference of the Economic Research Institute of Erie (ERIE) at Penn State Behrend focused on automation and artificial intelligence in the workplace. Ethan Pollack, associate director for research and policy at the Aspen Institute's Future of Work Initiative, provided the keynote address.
Support Black School of Business Students through Funding Opportunities
Each year, Black School of Business students learn through experiences supported by stakeholders who take an active interest in the success of tomorrow's business leaders. Your gift to Penn State Behrend helps enhance important initiatives for our business students, including:
- growing the Intrieri Family Student Managed Fund to $1 million, which then will fund student scholarships (donate here).
- providing assistance for students pursuing their professional certifications and designations or attending the annual spring trip (donate here).
CAIA Partnership Announced
Penn State Behrend’s finance program was selected for the prestigious University Partnership Program with the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) Association. The program grants scholarships for graduating seniors to pursue one of the two levels of the CAIA program. Fewer than 100 universities worldwide have been accepted into this program. International Business Major Ranked Best Program of Its Kind
The international business major in the Black School of Business has been named the best program of its type by study.com. The major is only available in the Penn State system through Penn State Behrend.
World Campus Finance Team Wins Regional Competition
A three-member team of students from our World Campus finance program with faculty mentor Dr. Brian Boscaljon won the regional CFA Society Pittsburgh Research Challenge competition advancing to the Americas Regional competition in New York City. The World Campus team outperformed teams from Pitt, Penn State University Park, and Washington & Jefferson to advance. Behrend has now won the regional competition three out of the last four years.
Professional Development Program Expands
Members of the professional development committee of our Business Advisory Board have been partnering with our professional development program to revise our first-year seminar and more broadly expand our professional development activities. Our two existing mentoring programs will be expanded this fall and we will introduce a cross-cultural mentoring experience as well. Students are recognized annually for exemplary performance.
Professional Mentoring Program at the Black School of Business
The Black School of Business Professional Mentoring Program is designed to bring together professional alumni and Penn State Behrend seniors and juniors who share professional interests. The relationships created through the program will enable professionals to share their knowledge and life experiences with their mentees and provide students with the support to explore career opportunities. Participants in the program are encouraged to meet seven times between October and May to participate in suggested activities aimed at helping graduating students develop their resumes, LinkedIn profiles, interviewing skills, and networking strategies. Professionals interested in becoming mentors can submit online applications.
