Balloon Rocket at Home Experiment
This experiment will help children explore and describe the motion of toys and objects.

What You Will Need
- 1 Balloon
- 1 Long Piece of String (about 10-15 feet long)
- 1 Plastic Straw
- Tape
- Scissors
Instructions
- Cut your string so it is about 10 to 15 feet long.
- Tie one end of the string to a chairs, doorknob, or other type of support.
- Put the other end of the string through the straw.
- Tie the other end of the string to a chair, doorknob or other type of support. Make sure it is pulled tightly.
- Blow up the balloon but do not tie it!
- While pinching the balloon so you don’t let any air out, tape the balloon to the straw. Make sure the end of the balloon is facing you and not towards the other side of the room.
- Let go of the balloon and watch it fly!
- Experiment with size and type of balloon
The Science Behind It
This experiment is all about the air and thrust! Once you let out the air inside of your balloon, it creates a forward motion called THRUST! Thrust is a pushing force created by energy that pushes your balloon all the way across your string!
