ERIE, Pa. — Parents, Families and Alumni Weekend is a highlight of the fall semester at Penn State Behrend. This year’s event, on Oct. 18-20, will include a family lunch, carnival games, tours of Glenhill Farmhouse and an alumni favorite: “midnight bingo,” but with a family-friendly 7 p.m. start time.
“Parents and Families Weekend has long been a staple of the college’s fall programming, but several years ago, we expanded it to invite alumni and make it more of a ‘homecoming’ type of event,” Chancellor Ralph Ford said. “Fall is such a beautiful time here at Behrend, and it provides the perfect backdrop to invite all members of the Behrend community to come together and celebrate the college.”
Weekend attendees, Ford said, won’t be bored.
On Friday, alumni are invited to an adult reception hosted by Behrend’s four academic schools, at Knowledge Center in Knowledge Park.
Saturday, the young and young-at-heart will enjoy an all-ages family carnival, with games of chance, inflatables and crafts. There also will be a free family lunch, campus walking tours, planetarium shows and immersive drop-in fun at the Virtual and Augmented Reality and Interactive Arts Lab in Lilley Library. Saturday’s program concludes with “midnight bingo,” a Behrend staple — this time, beginning at 7 p.m.
New this year is a selfie walk, where visitors can use their cell phones to capture photos at five popular photo spots on campus, including the new Glenhill Gardens. Glenhill Farmhouse, the former home of the Behrend family, also will be open for guided tours.
