Penn State Behrend has earned a bronze rating from STARS, the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System. The rating, which is valid for three years, is the result of a comprehensive, yearlong assessment of the college’s sustainability efforts.
The poet Lynn Emanuel will read from her work when she joins the Smith Creative Writers Reading Series at Penn State Behrend on Sept. 24. The 6 p.m. reading, which is free and open to the public, will be on Zoom.

Seyed Hamid Reza Sanei, an assistant professor of mechanical engineering at Penn State Behrend, is the principal investigator for a $412,000 National Science Foundation grant that will fund the purchase of an atomic force microscope at the college.
The new Belonging@Behrend program will group first-year students in small cohorts for weekly mentoring sessions. Students also will be encouraged to participate in events through BehrendSync, the college's student engagement platform.
