Leigh-Ann Bedal, associate professor of anthropology at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, is featured in "Building Wonders," a three-part documentary series airing this week on PBS. She directs the excavation of the Petra pool and garden complex, in what is now Jordan.

The Economic Research Institute of Erie, a research center of the Black School of Business at Penn State Behrend, has partnered with the Erie Community Foundation to provide data and analysis for Erie Vital Signs, a benchmarking program that tracks the region’s performance in seven key areas.
The move sharpens the program’s local focus. The analysis previously had been done at the University of Pittsburgh.
It was only 1 mile that separated Cybersonics Inc. from Penn State Behrend in 2009, but according to Jeff Vaitekunas, vice president of research and development at Cybersonics, being located across the highway from the University just wasn’t cutting it.
“I looked across that street, and when I saw those buildings I knew there was a great opportunity,” he said.
