Whether you are new to college, want to finish a degree you already started, or are looking for a career change, Penn State Behrend makes earning your degree as an adult both exciting and enriching, in a convenient and comfortable environment.
At Penn State Behrend, an adult learner is defined as one who:
- is 24 years of age or older; or
- is a veteran of the armed services; or an active duty service member; or
- is returning to school after four or more years of employment, homemaking, or other activity; or
- assumes multiple adult roles such as parent, spouse/partner, and employee.

First-Year Students
First-year applicants are those who have earned a high school diploma by the time they enroll at Penn State Behrend, and meet certain GPA and math unit criteria.
Transfer Students
Transfer students are those who have attempted at least 18 credits at a regionally accredited college or university after high school.
Non-Degree Students
Applicants whose applications cannot be processed in time for the next semester or those looking to take courses but not toward a degree.
To-Degree Status Students
Once a non-degree student has completed the required number of Penn State credits, he or she may apply for degree status.
Re-Enrolling Students
Students who have previously been enrolled at a Penn State campus and need to re-apply.
World Campus Students
This is an alternative way to obtain Penn State credit for the adult learner who may need options outside of the classroom.
