Article I: Purpose
The Chancellor’s Council on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion will develop, monitor and recommend implementation of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) strategies and promote community-wide participation and accountability at Penn State Behrend.
Article II: Responsibilities
- Develop mechanisms for diverse groups to share their experiences on campus including sharing and discussion of results from the Penn State Community Survey. Input will be considered for both areas of concern and areas to build upon. Findings will be shared and communicated campus wide.
- Establish, track, and communicate campus-wide metrics of success for the DEI goals of the strategic plan in coordination with campus community members.
- Identify and distribute a knowledge bank of successful best practices in higher education for diversity, equity, and inclusion which can be adapted to Behrend based upon community needs.
- Share successful diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives at Behrend and implement a recognition process to celebrate diversity, equity, and inclusion programs and services that are going well.
- Collaborate with other Strategic Plan Goal Teams which have diversity-related objectives and action items.
- Act as a central coordination and communication role between campus communities with a diversity focus including student organizations, Faculty Senate, etc.
- Make recommendations to appropriate bodies across campus.
- Communicate directly with the College Leadership Team.
Article III: Membership
- Members
The Council shall consist of 19 members.- Five faculty members
- Two faculty members appointed by Faculty Senate Chair
- Chair, Faculty Council Committee on Diversity
- Two faculty members shall be appointed by the Chancellor
- Five staff members
- One staff member from Human Resources
- One staff member from Educational Equity and Diversity Programs
- One representative from the Staff Advisory Council
- Two staff members shall be appointed by the Chancellor
- Five student members
- One representative from the Multi-Cultural Council (MCC)
- One representative from the Student Government Association (SGA)
- Two at-large undergraduate students appointed jointly by the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Director of Student Affairs
- One at-large graduate student appointed jointly by the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Director of Student Affairs
- One external member from our alumni, Council of Fellows, or the Community
- Campus Leadership

- Five faculty members
- Terms
- Faculty and staff members will serve for a term of two years.
- Terms will initially be staggered with one- and two-year terms so that there is overlap of committee membership.
- Co-Chairs
- The Council shall be co-chaired by one faculty member and one staff member.
- Co-chairs will be appointed by the Chancellor.
Article IV: Meetings
- The Council shall meet at least four times during the academic year.
The council helps to strengthen the college's efforts to create a campus climate that promotes understanding, respect, and support for a diverse campus community through collaboration with the Office of Educational Equity and Diversity Programs, the Women’s Engagement Council, the Multi-Cultural Council, and the Student Government Association Diversity Committee.
