Curriculum for M.M.M.

The 32-credit M.M.M. degree can be pursued on either a full-time or part-time basis and primarily uses an online format. Full-time students make two Friday-Sunday campus visits per semester; part-time students make one campus visit per semester. All students also attend one three-day summer residency for plant visits.

M.M.M. Course Descriptions

MMM students must complete 29 credits of required coursework plus one 3-credit elective. Required courses are:

QMM 552 Applied Statistical Process Control and Experimental Design: Concepts and techniques of statistical process control and the design of experiments. 3 credits

QMM 561 Manufacturing Systems Planning and Control I: Systems, components, and configurations, flow of material and information in a manufacturing system. 3 credits

QMM 562 Manufacturing Systems Planning and Control II: Flow of material and information in a manufacturing system. Emphasis on systems integration. 3 credits

QMM 581 Manufacturing Processes and Materials: Characteristics of materials with respect to their properties and associated choices of processing to create a range of products; including consideration of investment, tooling, materials, and manufacturing costs. 3 credits

QMM 582 Manufacturing and Supply Chain Strategy: Strategic decision context of manufacturing and its supply chains with linkage to corporate and business strategy. 3 credits

QMM 593 Field Experience in Manufacturing: Experiential learning through the firsthand study of manufacturing plants and by interacting with manufacturing leaders. 2 credits

QMM 851 Quality Management: Concepts of design, assessment, and improvement of quality systems; customer needs analysis, identification of opportunities for application of measurement techniques. 3 credits

QMM 871 Design Practice for Manufacturing I: Contemporary concepts in design and design practice with emphasis on engineering, business, and human strategy issues. 3 credits

QMM 872 Design Practice for Manufacturing II: Contemporary concepts in design and design practice with emphasis on logistics, risk, design and manufacturing readiness, and production. 3 credits

QMM 891 Communication and Leadership Skills for Manufacturing Managers: Applied principles of managerial, visual, and written communication that support the needs of manufacturing leaders. 3 credits

Suggested Course Schedule

Full-time students can complete the M.M.M. degree in a year. Part-time students are expected to enroll in two classes each semester and can complete the degree in twenty-two months. The Fox Graduate School of Penn State allows eight years to complete a graduate degree.
