Communication Jobs

Recent graduates of Penn State Behrend’s Communication program are employed by such companies as: Verizon, Erie Insurance, Proctor and Gamble, GE, Zurn Industries, J.M. Smucker, PNC Bank, UPMC, Bensur Advertising, Tungsten Creative, Corry Publishing, Erie Times-News, WSEETV, WJET/Fox 66, and the Erie Zoo. Communication graduates have become development directors, public relations directors, account executives, marketing managers, teachers, broadcasters, writers, journalists, pastors, coaches, and sports information directors, as well as serving in a wide variety of corporate and professional fields.

Others have successfully pursued graduate studies at the master’s and doctoral levels at leading universities including Carnegie Mellon University, Northwestern University, Indiana University, Louisiana State University, Penn State University, Purdue University, University of Pittsburgh, University of Toledo, and Washington State University.

Student Internships

Penn State Behrend strongly encourages students to complete at least one internship as part of their studies. Internships offer useful real-life work experience, an opportunity to "try out" a profession without commitment, a chance to make professional contacts, and a place to begin building a resume. Communication majors have completed internships at organizations like Community House, National Fuel, Ketchum Communications, Lord Corporation, Prime Time Sports, Senior Healthcare Services, Times Publishing Company, United Way of Erie County, WICU-TV 12, WJET-TV 24, and WSEE-TV 35, just to name a few.
