New rankings by U.S. News & World Report place the School of Engineering at Penn State Behrend among the top 50 undergraduate programs in the nation. The college appeared at No. 45 on the list, which was released Tuesday.
Other Penn State Behrend programs were not eligible to appear in the rankings. U.S. News evaluates colleges and universities based in part on their academic accreditations; within the Penn State system, most programs are accredited university-wide, with no distinction between campuses.
The Penn State Behrend engineering program has appeared on the list before: It was ranked within the top 50 in 2010 and at No. 51 in 2011.
“We’re proud to be in the top 50,” said Ralph Ford, director of the School of Engineering and associate dean for industry and external relations. “It’s rewarding to again be recognized nationally for the quality of our engineering program.”
Penn State was ranked No. 8 among all public national universities – up five places from the previous rankings. Schools in the “National Universities” category emphasize faculty research and offer a full range of undergraduate majors, plus master’s and Ph.D. programs.
