The scholarly works of more than 50 faculty members were on display Thursday, April 10, at the College Faculty Publication Reception at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College.
The reception, held at the college’s John M. Lilley Library, gave Penn State Behrend faculty members an opportunity to display any work published since 2012. Publications included authored books, peer-reviewed journal articles, conference papers, and chapters or essays appearing in textbooks and other print.
Ninety-nine works from 53 faculty members were on display. All four of the Penn State Behrend schools (the Sam and Irene Black School of Business, the School of Engineering, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, and the School of Science) were represented at the reception.
Faculty works showcased at the reception include:
- A chapter “Nazis, Cardassians, and Other Villains in the Final Frontier,” by assistant professor of history Amy Carney, published in the book Star Trek and History.
- The book Aesthetic Modernism and Masculinity in Fascist Italy by professor of English John Champagne.
- The sixth edition of the book Instructor’s Solutions Manual for Elements of Electromagnetics co-authored by associate professor of electrical and computer engineering Sudarshan Nelatury.
- A scholarly journal article “Performance of Weather-Conditional Rebates under Different Risk Preferences” by assistant professor of management Ozgun Caliskan Bemirag, published in Omega.
- A scholarly journal article “Shareholder Reaction to Firm Investments in the Capability Maturity Model: An Event Study” co-authored by Sam and Irene Black School of Business faculty members Greg Filbeck, Matthew Swinarski and Xin Zhao in the European Journal of Information Systems.
- A scholarly journal article “Direct Metal Substitution of Electropolymerized Ferriprotoporphyrin: A Simple Electrode-Modification Process for Developing Electrocatalytic Materials” co-authored by assistant professor of chemistry Jason Bennett and Penn State Behrend alumni Karissa Sterling and James Pander in ECS Electrochemistry Letters.
Reference librarian Russ Hall described the reception as a way to “bring all of our academic schools together, recognize the faculty for its collective contributions, and emphasize the value of research activity.”
This marked the third time that the College Faculty Publication Reception was held at Penn State Behrend. Hall said it was easily the best attended, especially by students.
