Behrend swimmers win Fredonia Blue Devil Invitational

ERIE, Pa. — The Penn State Behrend men’s swimming and diving team won the Fredonia Blue Devil Invitational for the first time since 2012. Brady Mattson, a sophomore from Wilmington, Delaware, set a program record in the 1,650-meter free race.

The college’s basketball, track and field, wrestling and bowling teams also were in action last week. Here are the highlights:

Men’s basketball

Penn State Behrend 77, Franciscan 43

Penn State Behrend 86, D’Youville 54

Dan Wanker, a junior from Pittsburgh, scored a career-high 19 points in the win over D’Youville. He and Justin Gorny, a junior from South Park, each added 17 points in the win over Franciscan.

Women’s basketball

Penn State Behrend 51, Franciscan 36

D’Youville 62, Penn State Behrend 45

Nicole Boyer, a junior from Blairsville, scored a career-high 14 points in the win over Franciscan. She added 13 rebounds.

Men’s swimming and diving

First (of nine teams) at the Fredonia Blue Devil Invitational

Mark Patterson, a junior from North Huntingdon, won the 200-meter backstroke, finishing in 1:53.11. Brady Mattson, a sophomore from Wilmington, Delaware, set a program record in the 1,650-meter free, finishing in 16:55.05. He placed second.

Women’s swimming and diving

Sixth (of nine teams) at the Fredonia Blue Devil Invitational

Gwendolyn Lowery, a senior from Bellefonte, placed second in the 400-meter individual medley, finishing in 4:49.77.

Men’s wrestling

Washington and Jefferson 37, Penn State Behrend 12

West Liberty 37, Penn State Behrend 6

Thomas More 34, Penn State Behrend 12

Jacob Lenhardt, a freshman from McKean, won all three of his matches. He wrestles at heavyweight.

Men’s track and field

Dylan Buffington, a senior from Brookville, won the 3,000-meter run at the Mount Union Toy Drive Invitational. He finished in 8:49.31, qualifying for ECAC competition.

Women’s track and field

Rachel Pell, a senior from Elizabeth, won the 500-meter dash at the Mount Union Toy Drive Invitational, finishing in 1:21.84 Rebecca Worley, a sophomore from Townville, won the 5,000-meter run, finishing in 20:01.66. Savanna Carr, a freshman from Franklin, won the 3,000-meter run, finishing in 10:51.95.

Women’s bowling
