Behrend cross country teams win Twilight Invite

ERIE, Pa. — Penn State Behrend’s cross country teams won the Twilight Invite in Erie on Sept. 13. Jenna Shelton, a senior from Cabot, won the women’s 6K with a time of 23:15.0.

The college’s soccer, volleyball, golf, tennis and water polo teams also were in action last week. Here are the highlights:

Men’s soccer

  • Penn State Behrend 2, Allegheny 0

Richard Blanchard, a junior from Erie, scored on a direct kick. He also set up a goal by Jordan Floyd, a freshman from Plum.

Women’s soccer

  • Penn State Behrend 4, Washington & Jefferson 2

Taylor Mealie, a junior from Baden, scored off a corner kick five minutes into the game. She scored again seven minutes later.

Men’s cross country

  • First (of 13 teams) at the Behrend Twilight Invite

Five Behrend runners placed in the top 10 at the Twilight Invite: Zach Wortman (No. 2), Jacob Carnovale (No. 4), Chris Drozynski (No. 6), Jake Lehotsky (No. 9) and Aidan Domencic (No. 10).

Women’s cross country

  • First (of 13 teams) at the Behrend Twilight Invite

Jenna Shelton, a senior from Cabot, won the women’s 6K at the Twilight Invite with a time of 23:15.0. Riley Crissman placed third, and Savanna Carr was fourth.

Women’s volleyball

  • Penn State Behrend 3, Keuka 0
  • Penn State Behrend 3, Wells 1
  • Lebanon Valley 3, Penn State Behrend 1
  • Fredonia 3, Penn State Behrend 2

Kristin Reiland, a sophomore from Fairview, had 12 kills, four blocks and one ace against Wells. Alex Parra, a senior from Pittsburgh, had 10 kills and three blocks against Keuka.

Men’s tennis

  • Penn State Behrend 6, Nazareth 3

The Lions won five of the six singles matches against Nazareth. Ricky Dong, a freshman from Bejing, won at No. 1 singles, finishing the match 6-1, 6-0.

Women’s tennis

  • Medaille 7, Penn State Behrend 2

The Lions lost in tiebreakers at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6 singles. Rachel Weber, a freshman from Hampton, won at No. 4 singles, finishing the match 6-2, 6-3.

Men’s golf

  • No. 6 (of 16 teams) at the Grove City Invitational

Jacob Marquardt, a freshman from Harmony, and Ryan Meyer, a freshman from Sewickley, led the Lions with a two-day score of 77. They tied for No. 12.

Men’s water polo

  • Penn State Behrend 11, Washington & Jefferson 6
  • La Salle 16, Penn State Behrend 12

Jeffrey Eliott, a freshman from San Antonio, Texas, scored four goals against La Salle. Isaak Hatopp, a senior from Saline, Michigan, and Andre Sardaryzadeh, a senior from Murrieta, California, each scored three goals against Washington & Jefferson.
