Yahn Planetarium at Penn State Behrend

Yahn Planetarium, part of the School of Science complex at Penn State Behrend, welcomes stargazers of all ages to learn about the universe and worlds beyond our reach. The planetarium continues the legacy of the Erie Planetarium, which served the Erie community for more than fifty years.

Public Show Information

Public Shows: Saturdays and summer Thursdays (June 11–September 10) at 10:00 a.m. (children’s program) and 11:30 a.m. (general audience). Reservations are not required.

Closed Dates: May 23; June 20, 25, and 27; July 2, 4, and 30; and August 1.

Admission fees are $5 for adults; $3 for children age 12 and under; and free for Penn State employees, Penn State students, and children under age 2.

School and group programs are available.

10:00 a.m. Children’s Show: A to Z Astronomy

Visit Yahn Planetarium for A to Z Astronomy, an alphabetical journey through the galaxy. This family-friendly romp through the universe features a roller coaster ride, a strange stop at a black hole with Mr. Shakespeare, a talking letter with a jelly-bean universe, and a trip to Egypt to explore hieroglyphs—the origins of our letters.

Recommended for families and children ages 3 and up. Each show concludes with a guided tour of the current night sky in the planetarium.

11:30 a.m. General Audience Show: From Earth to the Universe

Yahn Planetarium presents From Earth to the Universe, an immersive journey to the colorful birthplaces and burial grounds of stars and beyond the Milky Way into the unimaginable immensity of countless galaxies. Along the way, audiences will explore the history of astronomy, the invention of the telescope, and today’s giant telescopes that allow us to probe ever deeper into the universe.

Recommended for ages 9 and up. Each show concludes with a guided tour of the current night sky in the planetarium.
