Federal Work-Study

Federal work-study is a student financial aid program for eligible undergraduate and graduate students with high financial need. Work-study allows you to earn money to cover a portion of your educational expenses by working on campus or for an off-campus, nonprofit organization. This is not an aid source that students can deduct from their bill; funds are earned as the student works.

To Apply

All students who answer "yes" to the question "In addition to grants, are you interested in 'work-study'?" on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on the web are considered for federal work-study for fall and spring semesters. (Federal Work-Study is a need-based aid program, so not all students who answer "yes" on the FAFSA receive a work-study award.)

Finding a Position

If you are awarded federal work-study, it is your responsibility to find a position. For a current list of Federal Workstudy positions at Penn State, please visit our Careers website.

    Primary Location: Penn State Erie

    Worker Type: Student

There are also a number of off-campus work-study positions in the Erie area.

Students awarded Federal Work-Study will have their awards canceled if they do not secure a job within the first few weeks of classes each semester. Students can place a "hold" on their Federal Work-Study awards on LionPATH if they need more time to find a position.
