Penn State Behrend offers a variety of scholarship opportunities to both:
Scholarships are awarded based on a variety of criteria including academic merit, leadership potential, and financial need.
Students are automatically considered for most Penn State scholarships, including the academic and need-based scholarships. Others, including leadership scholarships, employer-based scholarships, and study abroad scholarships, require separate applications.
Important Dates
To ensure maximum consideration for all of our scholarships, you are encouraged to file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which opens in December. Incoming first-year students should submit the FAFSA by February 15; current students should submit by April 15.
Scholarship award notices for all students will be sent to the student's permanent home address on record with the University. Your address can be updated, if necessary, on LionPATH.
- First-year scholarship notifications are made by mid-February (prior to fall enrollment).
- Upper-division students are notified during the summer months. Only students selected for scholarships are notified.
Other Opportunities
Penn State Behrend students also are encouraged to apply for scholarships beyond those offered by Penn State. These financial-aid resources are called "outside scholarships" and frequently are given by civic groups, professional or religious organizations, high schools, nonprofits, and other community-based entities. Penn State Behrend's Office of Educational Equity and Diversity Programs maintains a list of outside scholarships that might be a helpful starting point in your outside-scholarship search.
