There are a variety of ways to learn new software, including online video tutorials, seminars (in person or via Zoom), Tech Tutors, learning guides, and other resources.
Notification of Training Opportunities
Faculty and staff can elect to receive periodic announcements regarding training opportunities from IT Learning and Development (ITLD) at Penn State. If you are interested in receiving these announcements, please contact ITLD via email.
Online Video Tutorials
LinkedInLearning is a great resource for Penn State students, faculty, and staff. There are thousands of tutorials to choose from to help you learn or to improve your business, software, technology and creative skills.
An additional resource for Penn State faculty and staff is the Learning Resource Network (LRN); this site includes content related to business skills, project management, faculty development, professional growth, compliance, and more.
Both LinkedinLearning and LRN are free and may be accessed 24/7.
In late spring (2021), BITS launched the Bits and Tips video series. It’s an opportunity to learn a bit more about an application, such as Office 365 (Outlook, Teams, etc.). Currently, the videos provide step-by-step instructions on how to accomplish a specific task for an application. We also plan to spotlight software applications and how they might be useful in the office, classroom, or for research. And the recordings are designed to be brief and to the point so you can learn what you need and accomplish the given task.
Training
IT Learning and Development (ITLD) offers training opportunities to faculty and staff at all campus locations. The training may take several forms, including video tutorials, software guides, and workshops/webinars. (The latter are usually held at University Park, but many of the sessions are recorded). Topics include administrative systems, file storage and collaboration, videoconferencing, Office 365, and many more. For the most current information regarding training opportunities or to register for ITLD seminars, visit the Learning Resource Network (LRN).
Tech Tutors
Tech Tutors offer a personalized learning experience for a wide variety of software applications, including Office 365, Adobe products, Sites at Penn State/WordPress, Zoom, Canvas, Kaltura, and more. They are available to all Penn State students, faculty, and staff.
