Seventeen members of Penn State Behrend's outdoor track and field teams qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference championships after the Carnegie Mellon Quad Meet. Grant Rodgers, a sophomore from Oil City, set a school record in the 400-meter run, finishing in 49.04.
The FirstEnergy Foundation, solely funded by FirstEnergy Corp., has donated $175,000 to support the Penn State College of Engineering’s Learning Factory Senior Capstone Design Projects at the University Park, Behrend and Berks campuses.

Six Penn State faculty members have received the 2018 George W. Atherton Award for Excellence in Teaching — Fred Aebli, information sciences and technology program co-coordinator and lecturer at Penn State Worthington Scranton; Elaine S. Barry, associate professor of human development and family studies at Penn State Fayette; Mary Connerty, senior lecturer in English at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College; Dennis Decoteau, professor of horticulture and plant system health in the College of Agricultural Sciences; Fred Fonseca, associate professor of information sciences and technology in the College of Information Sciences and Technology; and Michael Janik, professor of chemical engineering in the College of Engineering.
Andrew Byrnes, the former chief of staff at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, will discuss his career path and innovation April 3 when he visits Penn State Behrend as part of the college’s Speaker Series.
“You Will Be Found,” the spring concert from the Young People's Chorus of Erie begins at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 11, at Luther Memorial Church, 225 W. 10th St. The concert will feature a number of American, Venezuelan and traditional South African folk songs.
The men’s volleyball team at Penn State Behrend won its first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship after posting a 3-1 conference record during the regular season. The team’s only defeat in the conference was a five-set loss to Medaille.
Nishi Gupta has created a scholarship endowment to support engineering students at Penn State Behrend, where she began her education in 1978. "I wanted to do more, especially for women," she said.
