Penn State Behrend Offers Master's Degree in Manufacturing Management

Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, now offers a new master’s degree in manufacturing management. The 32-credit program will provide a unique set of engineering, business, quality-control and communications skills that are essential to management success in an increasingly global marketplace.

The program, which previously had been available at Penn State’s University Park campus, will now be offered exclusively at Penn State Behrend. It is being administered by the college’s School of Engineering and the Sam and Irene Black School of Business.

The schools share space in the Jack Burke Research and Economic Development Center, a 160,000 square-foot combined learning environment. Northwest Pennsylvania’s broad array of manufacturing and logistics businesses are well-suited to be used as additional “learning laboratories” for students.

Graduates of the program will know the fundamentals of materials, processes and product design and will have the critical skills that are required to communicate effectively at all levels of an organization. They will develop leadership and team-building techniques and process-improvement methods that focus on lean manufacturing and Six Sigma standards.

The initial courses for the master’s in manufacturing management program are designed for working professionals, with small class groups meeting in evening sessions. Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in an engineering, engineering technology, business or science discipline and have a solid background in calculus, statistics and computing.
