Loss to Elizabethtown snaps Penn State Behrend volleyball streak

ERIE, Pa. — A loss to Elizabethtown snapped a seven-match winning streak for the women's volleyball team at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College. Setter Lexi Irwin, a senior from Greensburg, was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference athlete of the week for the third time this season.

The college’s soccer, golf, tennis and water polo teams also were in action last week. Here are the highlights:

Men’s soccer

Carnegie Mellon 4, Penn State Behrend 1

Ryan Maurer, a senior from Cranberry Township, scored on a penalty kick. It was his fourth goal of the season.

Women’s soccer

Penn State Behrend 3, Franciscan 0

The Lions are undefeated in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference games. They outshot Franciscan 17-0.

Women’s volleyball

Penn State Behrend 3, Catholic 1

Elizabethtown 3, Penn State Behrend 1

Penn State Behrend 3, Hilbert 0

Setter Lexi Irwin, a senior from Greensburg, had 36 assists, 12 digs and 11 kills against Catholic. She added 31 assists, 16 digs and 10 kills against Elizabethtown.

Men’s golf

Second (of nine teams) at the AMCC championships.

Jack Perfett, a sophomore from Moon Township, led the Lions with a two-day low score of 154. He finished tied for fourth, in a field of 43 golfers.

Men’s water polo

Iona 19, Penn State Behrend 4

La Verne 19, Penn State Behrend 10

Caltech 10, Penn State Behrend 8

Occidental 20, Penn State Behrend 3

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 14, Penn State Behrend 4

Greg Kinzler, a sophomore from Kiski, scored four goals against Caltech. Kyle Frerichs, a senior from Sellersville, scored three goals against La Verne.

Men’s tennis

Penn State Behrend 9, Pitt-Bradford 0

Brent McFarland, a senior from Austinburg, Ohio, won a three-set match at No. 1 singles, finishing 4-6, 6-3, 7-6. He also won at No. 1 doubles.

Women’s tennis
