Behrend basketball team builds 9-game winning streak

ERIE, Pa. — The Penn State Behrend men’s basketball team has won its last nine games, including the championship match at the Purple and Gold Tournament in Defiance, Ohio. The team is undefeated at home this season.

The Behrend women’s basketball team and the college’s wrestlers also were in action last week. Here are the highlights:

Men’s basketball

The Lions made a season-high 24 free throws on 28 attempts against Pitt-Greensburg. Justin Gorny, a senior from South Park, led the team with a season-best 23 points.

Caitlin Carnuche, a freshman from New Castle, scored a game-high 23 points against Pitt-Greensburg. She scored on 61 percent of her shots from the floor and was five-for-five on free throws.

Wrestling

Defiance 35, Penn State Behrend 12

Jake Paulson, a sophomore from Erie, is undefeated in dual-match action this season. He won by pin in the 184-pound matchup against Defiance.
