Behrend track and field teams win conference championships

Haley Yenchik, a senior from Cecil, won the pole vault, long jump, triple jump and 100-meter dash events at the Colonial States Athletic Conference championships. She was named CSAC field athlete of the year.

ERIE, Pa. — Penn State Behrend’s track and field teams won the Colonial States Athletic Conference men’s and women’s championships on May 5. The men’s team won six events on the final day of competition; the women won 11.

The college’s baseball and softball teams also were in action last week. Here are the highlights:

Baseball

The Lions exited the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship tournament following the 6-0 loss to Franciscan. The team will play in the Eastern College Athletic Conference DIII tournament on May 11.

Men’s track and field

The 4x100 relay team — Jack Georgetson, Antonio Stello, Nick Coleman and Kurt Eberhardt — set a Colonial States Athletic Conference record at the CSAC championships, finishing in 42.72 seconds. They won the event.

Women’s track and field

Courtney Sargent, a senior from Erie, won the steeplechase race at the Colonial States Athletic Conference championships, finishing 15 seconds before the next runner. Her time of 11:35.41 set a conference record. Haley Yenchik, a senior from Cecil, won four events: the pole vault, triple jump, long jump, and the 100-meter dash.
