The Penn State Lake Erie Regional Grape Research and Extension Center will hold a public open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15. Open house visitors are invited to tour the vineyards and learn more about the center’s research efforts.
Parents, Families & Alumni Weekend will be held Sept. 21-23 at Penn State Behrend. A celebration of the college’s past, present and future, the weekend will offer a number of activities that are ideal for both alumni as well as current students and their families. The weekend coincides with the start of the college’s 70th anniversary.
A four-week summer study-abroad course paired students from Penn State Behrend and Ryerson University for discussions of American and Canadian political culture, election systems and government institutions. "It gave me a lot to think about," said Sam Zdunski, a political science major.
Twenty-six states, including Pennsylvania, have no curriculum requirement for basic K-12 financial education. Faculty members and students at Penn State Behrend's Black School of Business are closing that knowledge gap by providing lesson plans and financial literacy training to teachers at more than 40 schools.
Jared Yates Sexton will read excerpts from both his nonfiction book and fiction works on Thursday, Sept. 6, when he visits Penn State Behrend to open the college’s Creative Writers Reading Series. We caught up with him in advance of his visit to discuss his newfound fame and how he’s juggling the writing of both fiction and nonfiction on a regular basis.
Alumna Jen Town will read from her poetry collection, “The Light of What Comes After,” on Thursday, Sept. 20, when she visits Penn State Behrend as part of the college’s Creative Writers Reading Series. Her 6 p.m. reading and the reception preceding it are free and open to the public. Both events will be held in the Larry and Kathryn Smith Chapel.
Members of the Penn State and local communities are invited to celebrate Constitution Day with on-campus events at University Park on Monday, Sept. 17, as well as activities at a number of Penn State campuses.
The women’s soccer team at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, defeated Baldwin Wallace for the first time since 2014, earning a spot in the final at the Herb Lauffer Memorial Soccer Tournament. The Behrend men’s team also was in action last week, as were the college’s volleyball, golf, tennis, cross-country and water polo teams.
